Yacht: Bali 4.8 (2024)
Start & finish: Marina Bas-du-Fort, Guadeloupe
Airport transfer: About 15 minutes by car from Pointe-à-Pitre Airport (PTP).
A familiar starting point, a new Caribbean direction. This time we sail north from Guadeloupe, exploring Antigua’s welcoming bays and Barbuda’s long, pale-sand beaches.
Where we sail
- Guadeloupe – embark and return at Marina Bas-du-Fort.
- Deshaies – a planned stop on Guadeloupe’s northwest coast, anchoring off this charming Creole seaside town.
- Antigua – bays, time ashore and English Harbour, with the historic setting of Nelson’s Dockyard.
- An optional excursion to Stingray City in Antigua brings you into shallow turquoise water to swim with, feed and gently stroke southern stingrays, accompanied by local guides.
- Barbuda – spacious anchorages, turquoise water and long sandy beaches. Codrington Lagoon is home to the Caribbean’s largest frigatebird colony, which you can explore on an optional boat tour with a local guide.
- Montserrat and Guadeloupe’s northern Grand Cul-de-Sac Marin lagoon may also feature, depending on weather and available time.
Barbuda – a distinctive island community
With fewer than 2,000 residents, Barbuda offers a different rhythm: a quiet island, welcoming locals and personal encounters. Its centuries-old tradition of communal land ownership holds a distinctive place in the island’s history and the community’s sense of belonging.
The island is almost entirely flat, with its highest point just 38 metres above sea level. Alongside its long sandy beaches, the vast inland Codrington Lagoon shapes the landscape.
Frigatebirds nest among the lagoon’s mangroves. An optional boat tour with a local guide brings you close to this remarkable birdlife – a memorable addition to the beaches and sailing.
One of Barbuda’s most memorable sights is its vast stretch of pink-tinged sand. Beside the turquoise sea, the beach invites long walks, swimming and unhurried time ashore – a beautiful escape from winter.

We sail by day and spend our evenings in bays or harbours, shaping the route around the wind and sea.
